The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only best robot vacuum and mop we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or at night as you try to sleep.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house depending on how dirty these areas are.

For larger houses it's worth looking for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home using the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a number of furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to organize the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency.
