It then can alter its direction automatically and clean around them without stumbling.

It's the most expensive model I've tried however it also comes with the most features. Its sleek angular design is eye catching and only has three buttons that are physically accessible. The power button, which also restarts the cleaning mop button, which doubles as a child-lock and a home-button that can send the robot to its dock. The hinged lid can be opened to reveal a 350ml trash bin and 200ml of water tank. The water tank automatically empties and the bin auto-refills.

The only issue I encountered in this model was the VibraRise mop pads mount isn't removable. While you can swap out the mopping cloth (if it's required), it's a pain to take off the mount itself for manual washing. I've observed that any carpet that the robot touches will be in contact with the rough Velcro like fastener system on the mounts, which can cause scratches.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a number of smart features that include support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. You can set up and manage these via the Roborock app that is also home to its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app also lets you to schedule cleanings, monitor the battery life and maintain your components. You'll need to jump through a few steps to enable voice control on this model. It's a shame considering how well-performing it is otherwise.

3. Dreame X40
