WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a more value in trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the Item upgrade used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool with the help of button, which will show an item's preview at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Item upgraders can be found in many places on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrader available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via various methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

Crests

Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. They can use Flightstones that are a general upgrade currency that is available to everyone, or crests, which are more specialized and are consumed during upgrades on specific Best item upgrade levels. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, contingent on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it does bring some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item is at the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one use therefore it's essential to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrader gear you have available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan on making. This is especially applicable to items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots.
