BMW Ghost Immobiliser

The Ghost Immobiliser Car uses the CAN data bus to communicate with your vehicle. This prevents thieves from replacing the ECU or putting in an additional lock to circumvent the security system.

Anti-Hijack

Ghost created this discrete, unobtrusive device to combat the increasing sophistication of hi-tech thieves. It is designed to prevent thieves from putting in an ignition key or replacing the ECU to start your vehicle and drive it off. Ghost connects to your CAN data network, and utilizes the buttons on your vehicle (steering wheel and centre console as well as door panels) to create a unique push sequence which must be completed before the engine can start.

When the anti-hijacking feature is activated, any attempt to restart the engine will be thwarted. If the system detects that the vehicle is no longer moving, it will honk the horn and flash the indicators. If it is not able to locate the correct code, it will also stall the engine (where it is). By entering your push sequence or entering service mode, you can cancel the Anti-Hijack feature. This allows your vehicle to be temporarily started without the need to enter a PIN.

If you own an GPS device linked up to your BMW it can be used to disable the Anti-Hijack feature so you can still use the navigation system in your car whilst the vehicle is parked unattended. You can also use your mobile phone to control the anti-theft feature as well as other functions.

The system will allow you to turn the vehicle on and off, then select drive and quit service mode without needing keys. You can also view your vehicle in real-time on a map on your smartphone, ideal for tracking your car when moving around.

The Ghost can be placed under the dashboard, or in the centre console. It is completely concealed and tamper-proof. It doesn't require any additional wiring. The device is connected to the vehicles CAN Data Network (similar to an Ethernet cable) and a personal PIN code is embedded into it. This pin code needs to be chosen before the vehicle is started. This will prevent thieves from gaining access to the system using a cloned or replaced ECU.

If the vehicle is taken away, the Ghost will enter service mode and stop all functions until you have the PIN number or use the mobile application to disable it. This feature was created to protect you vehicle from high-tech thieves who use relay boxes to steal it. This will stop thieves from using mobile phones to turn on your sat-nav system or mp3 player to locate your vehicle!

Ghost also blocks 'Relay-style Frequency Amplification'. This is the most frequent method of stealing a car with a keyfob which has been duplicated or stolen through hacking. Ghost lets you stop this kind of theft by installing a device called Secure-A Key inside your vehicle. The device is installed inside the key-fob of your vehicle and then will disconnect the battery after a few minutes of inactivity, this can be done on most modern PKE key-fobs.
