Prams and pushchairs pushchairs are the multifunctional, versatile companions of caregivers and parents. They are the co-pilots on the new journey of your child.

They have a seat unit which reclines into a lay-flat mode for younger infants and converts into a pushchair unit for older children.

The suspension of the pram will determine how smoothly it is. A pram with many spring suspensions will be more expensive, but it is worth the extra expense in the event that you plan to use your pram every day for a few years or longer.

Always read the instructions and carefully read the warning labels on your stroller or pram. When not in use, you should place your stroller in a safe area away from dangers like bicycles, traffic or other people. It is important to remove any bags or items from the handles as they could cause your baby to get trapped or even die.

A stroller or pram should not be left alone with a child in it even if they are asleep. They may squirm into the stroller and become stuck, or be pushed away and cause injuries. Some prams have a separate bassinet or seat for the newborn. This lets you easily switch between sleeping and sitting positions depending on what your baby needs. This is often referred to as a "travel system" and is the initial setup you should test out with your newborn.

Look for a pram with two shoulder straps (ideally with padding) and a five-point safety harness that fits your child's body securely. Be sure that there aren't any gaps or loose areas in which fingers can get caught and that the buckles are easy to use - especially for older children. It's also worth considering whether you'd like a parent facing pram or not. It's ideal to keep an eye on your child, and also helps children feel secure with the familiarity of their parents.

When buying a pram newborn it is important to consider your baby's needs for transport. You should be able to store bags for shopping and changing under the pram (but remember that too much weight can cause it to topple over).
