However unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots we test, the i3+ doesn't have obstacle-avoidance capabilities which means it can get stuck on things like socks or power cords, and it can have difficulty traversing transitions across surfaces like hardwood to rug.

iRobot recommends that you tidy up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or other clutter it might encounter. It's also recommended to keep the bin and filter clear so they don't become clogged with dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station and empties the dirt into the station’s external dustbin. It then continues cleaning from where it left off. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for approximately an hour and a half of continuous use, and takes about three hours to fully recharge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line, and it comes with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and -- the most important feature of all -- it has a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ can better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your robot through the app or by voice.

The i7+ is more efficient and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy the dust bin is self-emptying, which removes a major source of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions, move itself around the room, and even vacuum a specific space. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. Once connected, to give voice commands to the i7+, like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and evaluating performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is a sports car in a world of cordless vacuums that feel like minivans and buses. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in most households, but it also fits perfectly next to the coffee table or the bookshelf, where you can move it around like the magic device.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that can provide power that is not fading for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system captures allergens, and then releases fresh air into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets, and then pick up large particles or fine dust. It comes with three suction settings to suit the task being performed. It swiftly switches from handheld vacuum to floor vacuum, and then back to floor.

The model comes with a dock which charges the Dyson to 100 percent within 3.5 hours. It also provides an easy access to two attachments and a handheld. This is a significant improvement over older Dysons models, that require a long charge and are a pain to store.

The main issue with the V10 is its limited run time. Its claims on the market that it has up to 60 minutes of run time are misleading as CR's tests have shown. This is a typical battery-powered vacuum's run time. It's still enough time to get rid of the majority of a home that's average size however, it's not enough to cover every spot (though a second run-through usually can be effective). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more mobile than previous Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is noticeably superior on low-pile floor carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

The 694 is a basic robot vacuum that's a great option for those who don't have a lot of money to invest in an expensive robot. It could pick up all kinds of debris and sizes during our tests and would often go over the same area multiple times to ensure an extensive clean. Its flat front side helps it to reach into corners and along the edges of walls and walls, which is a nice addition.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and guide you through your home. It's not equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, including our top picks, i3+EVO and J7+ Series. It is prone to getting stuck on phone cords or low furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its original location.

Samsung is a household name in home electronics. It's not a surprise that they are also among the top producers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is packed with cutting-edge onboard tech for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and removed 86% of dog hair (on carpet).
