1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling, the i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a great alternative for those who want a a fully automated, hands-off cleaning experience, but are willing to manually empty the robot's dustbin when it is full.

Both robots are adept at cleaning up surface debris from hard floors and carpets, and they're excellent in getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes a smart maps of your home that help the i3+ navigate and clean up efficiently. The i3+ isn't able to have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or other top-rated robots we tested. It may be stuck on power cords and socks and have difficulty navigating between different surfaces like carpet and hardwood.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, and include getting rid of any toys or clutter it may come across. It's also a good idea to keep the bin and filter clean so they don't become clogged with dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or its battery is empty it will return to its docking station, automatically empties its dirt into the station's external dustbin and then resumes cleaning where it started. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for approximately an hour and a half continuous use, and takes around three hours to fully recharge.

2. Roomba from iRobot

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and is packed with the latest technology. It's self-charging and self-navigating. -- the most important feature of all -- it has self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ can keep up to 10 automatic floor cleaning machine plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that allows it to create maps of rooms so that it can clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can control your robot via the app or by voice.

The i7+ is faster and more maneuverable in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, though the dust bin is self-emptying, which removes a major source of maintenance and reduces recurring costs.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to start, stop, or pause cleaning sessions as well as move around the room, and even vacuum a specific area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. Once connected to these services, we were able use the i7+'s voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and monitoring performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is a sports car that is amidst a sea of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum for the majority of households, but it also fits in well next to the coffee table or shelves where you can wave it around like a magic device.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system traps allergens and releases cleaner air back into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives stiff nylon bristles deep into carpet to collect large crumbs and fine dust. It has three suction modes that can be adapted to suit the task. It quickly switches from handheld vacuum to floor vacuum, and then back to floor.

The model also comes with docks that charge to 100% in 3.5 hours and offers an easy access to two attachments and a clip for a wand. This is a big improvement over earlier Dysons models, which take a long time to charge and are difficult to store.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its limited run time. As CR's tests show, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is an average, not an exceptional, time to run an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. It's enough time to vacuum the average-sized home, but not enough to reach every spot. (A second run generally works). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeable superior on low-pile automatic floor cleaning machine carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums The 694 is a basic model that's a great option for those who don't wish to spend too much on a best robot vacuums. It could pick up most types of debris in our testing and often went over the same area several times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front side helps it reach into corners and along the walls' edges which is a nice feature.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it lacks the mapping capability of more advanced models like our top selections such as the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. It is prone to getting stuck on phone cords or furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694, as it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower cost of recurring costs and has more advanced automation abilities and is able to better navigate its own. It also has a bigger dustbin and is charged faster.

The elegant RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for a variety of purposes, as it has a better battery life, has the ability to alter its suction power mode on its own and comes with physical boundary strips, and is controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It also feels more sturdy and has a more powerful motor, and is able to perform better on bare floors and low-pile carpet, while providing a greater variety of automation features.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a household name in the field of home electronics. It's not surprising, then, that they are one of the top makers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is loaded with cutting-edge onboard intelligence technology to aid in navigation and obstacles avoidance.

The app provides plenty of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior customization docking frequency settings and much more. The app is simple to learn and use as are other Samsung devices.

In our tests our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) very well, picking up 86% of it. It did not do well in avoiding taller items like socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than the other models we tried, which might be a deal-breaker for certain shoppers.

The app also makes it simple to steer the robot manually in the event of need. For example my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that tends to cause confusion for other robots I've tried. The HRV 425BL, however, continued to move across the border without registering the edge. And the ability to program the weekly cleaning schedule is a fantastic time-saving feature.
