World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it may increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and boost additional stats.

Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increases as it is upgraded. This value is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive dependent on who you employ and what you decide to do. This is because of how many perks must be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.

It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players can use as PvP is restricted at lower levels. The average level of an item can be found in the character sheet.

The level of an item can help players compare the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a measure of the item's condition and its quality. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when examining a vendor's inventory.

On PC, you can check the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are many theories about how the item level is calculated. One theory suggests that the level of an item is determined by an equation that determines the worth of the stats of an item really are. It takes into account the fact that various perks have different value and that sockets have gems that increase the item's overall value. This process could result in a calculated amount for the item's level, which is typically close to the actual Blizzard item level.

It's not the only thing that affects the ilvl of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped can alter its stats. For example, it could increase the item's haste, or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant part of what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the Best item upgrader." The stat modifications of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's skill.

Upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher costs.

Another method of altering the stats of an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and are available in all sizes and shapes. Affixes can be used to give the item extra damage, or give a specific ability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding an additional name to the item.

At present, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.

Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll attaches. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the item level, but all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it is a unique item or the result of a God roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or selecting which stats to enhance. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item basis, and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the chances of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their gear in earlier waves, and is therefore more useful in early game runs as opposed to later ones, since most players prefer higher weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance which increases with each level of the item upgrader kit and can be further increased by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can be created or spawned with the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of an item, up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that causes damage by 5%. These items can be bought from the shop or made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade fails.

The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading that item, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the chance of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%..

The success of an item upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. All items have an average success rate of 25 percent and every item with Luck increases this chance by 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects could be obstructed by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
