BMW Ghost Immobiliser

The Ghost uses the CAN data bus for communication with your vehicle. This prevents thieves from putting in a new key or even replacing the ECU to bypass your security system as it requires a valid PIN code to start the engine.

The Ghost is different from other immobilisers because it does not use key fobs or LED indicators. It relies on the buttons of your vehicle to allow you to enter a unique sequence of disarming that only you know.

Stop & Start

If you have ever driven a new BMW or utilized the stop start feature then you may have noticed that once stopped the engine will still continue to run for around 30 seconds after you release the brake pedal. Ghost is connected to your CAN network, and uses buttons on your vehicle to generate an individual push-sequence that has to be entered before your engine can begin.

This will activate the anti-hijack feature and once active, any attempt to start the engine will be stopped. Once the system detects that the vehicle has stopped moving it will honk the horn and flash the indicators, in case it is not able to find the correct code it will also stall the engine (where possible). The Anti-Hijack feature can be disabled by entering your push sequence or by enabling service mode, which allows your car to temporarily start and drive without having to enter your PIN.

If you have an GPS device linked up to your BMW it is possible to use it to cancel the Anti-Hijack feature, allowing you to still use the navigation system in your car whilst the vehicle is parked unattended. The Ghost can be placed on the dashboard or within the centre console. It is completely concealed and tamper-proof. It doesn't require any additional wiring. The device is connected to the vehicle's CAN Data Network (similar to an Ethernet cable) and a personal PIN code is inserted into it. The pin code needs to be chosen prior to the engine starting. This stops thieves from gaining access to the system using a cloned or replaced ECU.

If your vehicle is stolen, the Ghost will go into service mode and disable all functions unless you have a PIN number or use the mobile application to disarm it.
