The best robot vacuum can sweep and automatic vacuum and mop your floors with no effort. It will also leave the floors spotless. Its price is affordable and its high-end features (such as a dirt detector) are both positives.

The robots also come with the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and works while you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross-contamination. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the competition. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite loud that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and better-looking. If you're willing to live some more volume and a little more cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty the areas are.

It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It features a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robotic hoovers vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
