The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and it will leave your floors spotless. Its price is affordable and its high-end features (such as a dirt detector) are positives.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They are equipped with motors that are top-of-the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model) they utilize intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like furniture leg. The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our first option. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used when you're at work or in school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and robot hoover efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot vacuum cleaner best hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire house, finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a good job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms that had various flooring types, such as some area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba rather than the compact models This mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic hoovers mop or vacuum that has an exemplary 10/10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some extra cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house depending on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For larger houses it's worth looking for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you own a number of furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app also gives access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums that we have test. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
