WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item upgrade by +3. A random additional substat is also increased with every upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees more value in trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be visited anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item upgrader kit level, however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool or item Level upgrade armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

Upgraders for items can be found in many places, including the main island item Level upgrade as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via a variety of means, which is both an improvement and a drawback.

The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses to obtain endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it brings some changes to the upgrade process. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest level possible on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests have one purpose therefore it's essential to use them wisely. It's Best item upgrade to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The discount on the account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
