World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of weapons, armors and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.

For instance a weapon that has the upgrade template ending in % will take on 3damage to attack each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Item upgrading costs crests and the item's current level. The cost increases with the item's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons, and trinkets in order to provide a stat bonus or extra effect when they're used. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors trading or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be used on equipment that has a slot. The item must be upgraded to blue before the component can be applied. In contrast to other mods components can only be used once; they can't be used multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade items component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging ascended gear or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it's applied to (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). These upgrades can be purchased by purchasing them in the cash shop or by collecting them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-tier version of the item will be available in the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to continue improving their equipment even if they're not sure of the extent to which it will improve following a subsequent reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be costly, and it is possible that the item upgrades will become obsolete, or even break, when the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. This is alleviated by the availability cash shop items to increase or even eliminate the chance of failure, as well as some upgrades that provide a bonus when reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade elements that can be inserted into special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs boost the power of all nodes in a radius around them and include pre-existing affixes to equipment. Glyphs are upgraded in a variety of ways, and we suggest upgrading them to 15 levels as soon as possible.

Each level of an item requires different components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.

Certain upgrades require a certain ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab in the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to upgrade the item. Once enough are earned, the upgrade can be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When an individual player improves an item it is replaced by a new item. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item comes with its own bonus. This could be a disadvantage, as the item can increase in price even if you don't require it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can roll the upgrade of their item. This will cause the item to be exchanged for a new one, which will have the level 1 base, and a different set of bonuses. This can be beneficial however it shouldn't be done often as it could waste resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled several times to increase their value, allows the player to modify their equipment.
