WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for those with lower requirements because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item level upgrade will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be visited anytime to upgrade your gear. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new gear. For instance, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool or armor. button, which will show a preview of the item at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current item upgrading level. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded, item level upgrade and can be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through several methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was altered a bit, with some new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a particular level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to that level will be less expensive, even when they belong to a different gear set.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a few options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special and are used for specific Item Level Upgrade level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and item Level Upgrade that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated may require as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the item like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item upgrader mod is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest possible level for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one use, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the best gear you have available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount on the account is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
