WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item level upgrade by +3. A random extra substat is also increased with every upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item level upgrade, however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to upgrade weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. Players can purchase them from item upgrade upgraders NPCs for various currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with the help of button, which will show an image of the Best item upgrade at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of getting the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and a disadvantage.

Crests

The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece reaches the highest level of upgrade item for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment available and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly true for Item level upgrade items like rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character that will be able to benefit from the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with top-quality gear.
