However unlike the i7+ or other top rated robots we test, the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles, so it may be stuck on things like power cords or socks, and may have issues navigating across surface transitions like from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot recommends clearing areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, which includes putting away any clutter or toys it may come across. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dust bin and filter clear so they aren't clogged by dirt. When the i3+'s internal bin is full or the battery is low it goes back to its docking station, automatically emptying its dirt into the station's external dustbin and then resumes cleaning where it started. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for approximately an hour and a half continuous use, and it takes around three hours to fully recharge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in iRobot's flagship line and is equipped with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most crucial feature of all -- it comes with self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ can make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can control your robot via the app or voice.

In our tests the i7+ was more agile and faster than our top choice and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surface types including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying bin, which removes major maintenance sources and reduces recurring cost.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning session and to move around the room and vacuum the area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. Once connected, to voice commands to the i7+ such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model is an old-fashioned sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in a majority of homes, yet it is also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered with a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that lasts for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system traps allergens and releases clean air back into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpets to trap large dust and crumbs. It has three different suction modes that can be adjusted to suit the task. It is able to swiftly switch between handheld and floor vacuum, and vice versa.

This model has a dock which charges the Dyson to 100% in 3.5 hours. It also gives the ability to connect two attachments as well as the Wand. This is a huge improvement over older Dysons that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt technology to steer clear of obstacles and help you navigate your home. However, it isn't equipped with the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, like our top picks, the i3+EVO and j7+ Series. This means that it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently will run out of battery before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694 in that it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower costs for recurring expenses, has more advanced automation abilities and is better able to navigate its own. In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and cleaned up 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). However, it didn't do particularly well with higher-up objects like cords or socks which was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models that we tested, and this could be a deterrent for some shoppers.
