Path of Exile Item Upgrading

In Path of Exile, item upgrading is one of the best ways to upgrade your equipment without relying on big-ticket drops or trade. This article will show you how to upgrade your items.

Upgrades to equipment give an additional bonus to the item's stats. This bonus is based on the upgrade component level and rarity.

Components

Upgrade components are the things that make your weapons and armor more effective. You can find them by destroying enemies, buying them from karma sellers or finding them in items-spheres. They can also be rescued from equipment that has them, or through the highest-quality salvage kits like the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components cannot be destroyed when you remove them from an item.
