How to Replace an audi key copy (hikvisiondb.webcam) G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located at the top of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a message to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 via the grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to control fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can activate spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test as there are different connector pins, and each has its own functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms if the sensor is in full operation. Examine for signs of coolant or oil in the connector Audi key copy bay if you are experiencing problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a massive reduction in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were drenched in gasoline and the 4th was dry. When i crank the engine with no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline jump out but the 4th one stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I don't know what to do. I think I've all other possibilities out. However, i'm afraid that I might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. Testing them is easy - put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines requires to know the position and speed the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of fuel injectors, etc. To accomplish this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you are experiencing issues with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could cause the engine shutting down.

A damaged G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox or a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire while in the gear. It is probable that the sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you encounter any of these symptoms. The good news is they are quite affordable and readily available, especially in the case of a Bosch unit which is what we have. If you prefer, GM's version of this part is an option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the cause of numerous issues with your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission in your audi keys because it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slowly the engine of the car is turning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It transmits signals via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to control the flow of fuel and boost and also to timigrate. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should observe approximately 1000 ohms resistance between these two points. This part is common across the Audi 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 Du So, you may find good ones in wrecking yards.
