WoW Item Upgrades

Item upgrades--more commonly known as "upping"--are enchantments and items that can be incorporated into armor and weapons and increase their effectiveness. These upgrades can increase the gauge of an item by a specific number of points. Their cost increases according to their rarity.

A perfectly rolled version of this armor is highly prized in the melee PvP community due to its ability to reduce the damage caused by weapons.

Type-restricted upgrades

Upgrades are a vital element of the crafting process. Upgrades can be used to increase the effectiveness of an item upgrading, increase its strength or provide an additional benefit. They can also change the appearance of an item. While certain upgrades are universal, others have special rules for armor or weapons. The wrong upgrade can ruin the weapon that was previously excellent, and could even render it useless.

In general it is possible to upgrade an item of equipment up to the level of its highest-level counterpart. This means that you are able to upgrade body armors, helms, shields and gloves to the same level as their top-of-the-line counterparts. Weapons on the other hand can be upgraded to the level of a sword. This doesn't increase the weapon's power of damage, but can reduce the value of its trade.

To upgrade an item, you need to spend flightstones and crests. The amount of each is contingent on the item's level and slot.
