It's also quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best automatic vacuum cleaner robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning robot mop and vacuum mop pads.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's loud that could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and some extra cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. Finally the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes.
