One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum with mop that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also useful. Additionally the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.
